Promoting Professionalism in the Last Frontier
The Alaska Association of Chiefs of Police was established as a voice representing all law enforcement executives. Our mission is to enhance the quality and effectiveness of Alaska’s criminal justice system. We hope to accomplish this by providing our members access to a professional network of law enforcement executives; by providing training, mentoring, and professional assistance, and providing some valuable tools to assist Alaska’s law enforcement administrators in becoming better leaders and managers. In addition, our association endeavors to monitor the State of Alaska legislative process and speak on behalf of our membership on relevant issues.
Our Members
Our members are police chiefs and executives from all areas of law enforcement in the State of Alaska. Alaska is an enormous state where most of our communities are not connected by a road system and where our law enforcement community faces challenges unique to the “Last Frontier.” With many agencies having severely limited resources, we all endeavor to work together in positive partnerships to accomplish our goals. We believe that we can achieve many tasks and problem-solving much more effectively by working together as we do.
Why AACOP?
Established in 1956, the Alaska Association of Chiefs of Police (AACOP) is an organization that represents the leaders of local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies in Alaska.
AACOP is an influential participant in the State of Alaska’s legislative process. The Association stretches across the state, and its membership comprises many well-respected law enforcement executives from various federal, state, and municipal agencies. AACOP members are serving and have served in leadership and committee positions in organizations like the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP), the National Institute of Justice (NIJ), and the FBI National Academy Associates.
