Recognizing that the beginning of any new police chief’s administration can be the most challenging but also the most crucial period of a new chief’s tenure, the Alaska Association of Chiefs of Police has partnered with the IACP New Police Chief Mentoring Project to provide support during this transition. This opportunity is designed to provide newer police executives with leadership development and policy guidance through the professional support network of chiefs in Alaska as they begin their tenure.
The Alaska Association of Chiefs of Police (AACOP) and IACP New Police Chief Mentoring Project is a valuable professional development opportunity that helps to connect police executives. The project assists newer police chiefs active in their first three years of appointment by matching them with experienced mentor chiefs for 3 to 6 months of formal mentoring, supported by the staff at IACP. The unique relationship between AACOP and IACP enhances the professionalism of chiefs in Alaska by matching newer chiefs with experienced mentors in their region. Additionally, participants receive complimentary resources, including the highly acclaimed Police Chiefs Desk Reference.
