Chief Doug McCloskey, Wrangell Alaska Police Department

Doug McCloskey is the Chief of Police for the City of Wrangell. He began his Law Enforcement career in Montana as a dispatcher/ jailor in July of 1981 for Madison County. In November of 1981, he began working as a Deputy Sheriff in Beaverhead County. During that time he attended the Montana Law Enforcement Academy where he earned Basic, Intermediate, and Advanced Certification. Some of his additional duties and skills include K-9 Handler, DARE Instructor, EMT, and Livestock Brand Inspections.

In November of 1992 he applied for and was accepted as a Police Patrol Officer for the city of Wrangell. Since then he has served as Patrolman, School Liaison/ Dare Officer, Police Sergeant and Police Lieutenant. He also attended the Alaska Law Enforcement Academy and earned Basic and Advanced Certification and is a Certified Police Instructor.

June 03, 2003, Doug was appointed Chief of Police for the City of Wrangell. As Chief, Doug McCloskey has found the duties of the position to be challenging as well as rewarding. He attributes his success to dedicated hard working staff and a supportive community.

Doug McCloskey has been active with the Community, particularly the youth. He has been in the lead roles for Fishing Derbies, Bicycle Rodeos, Health Fairs, Dare and Youth Court programs, Hunter Safety Instruction, Alaska Peace Officer Association activities.
