
Chief Lucking is a second-generation Alaskan law enforcement officer. His family lived in Ft. Yukon when he was born in the early 1960’s and where his father was stationed as an Alaska State Trooper. He grew up in the Fairbanks and Anchorage areas where he attended both high school and college.
Chief Lucking began his law enforcement career with the Unalaska Department of Public Safety in March of 1985 and has remained with the Department ever since. He has ascended through the ranks over the years holding the positions of Patrol Officer, Patrol Sergeant, Investigator, and Police Lieutenant. In December of 2001 he was promoted to the Rank of Police Chief/Director of Public Safety.
Chief Lucking attended the 204th session of the Federal Bureau of Investigations National Academy as well as the Police Supervision and Leadership course at Northwestern University’s Traffic Institute. He currently holds a degree from the University of Alaska in Criminal Justice and electronic technologies.
Chief Lucking is a long time member of the Alaska Peace Officers Association State Board and President of the organization’s Aleutian Islands Chapter. Other organizations he belongs to include the FBI National Academy Associates, Alaska Association of Chief’s of Police, International Association of Chief’s of Police, National Law Enforcement and Corrections Technology Center-Northwest Regional Advisory Council, American Society of Law Enforcement Trainers, Unalaskans Against Sexual Assault and Family Violence, Unalaska Interagency Cooperative, Aleutian Pribiloff Islands Local Emergency Planning Committee and the Ballyhoo Lions Club.
Chief Lucking is active in his community and has served as a volunteer fireman and EMT as well as on many local boards and commissions. He resides in Unalaska with his wife of 15 years, Suzanne, and his three daughters: Heidi-8 YOA, Lindsay 6 YOA and Rachel 4 YOA.
