Chief See comes originally from Michigan, where he was raised with two brothers.  He attended Michigan State University in 1968 and Wayne State in 1969 and ‘70.  He attended the Detroit Engineering Institute in 1975 and received a limited journeyman’s license in refrigeration with a 100 ton Boiler Operator’s License.

 

He came to Alaska to commercial fish in 1976 and began his law enforcement career with Craig Police Department in the summer of 1980.  He continued to commercial fish and was a reserve officer until January, 1985, when he joined full time.  He attended the ALETS academy where he graduated as valedictorian of his class.  He became sergeant in 1986, and was appointed Acting Chief in 1989.  In March, 1990, he was appointed to the Chief’s position.

 

Chief See has been involved with the Alaska Peace Officers Association since the Prince of Wales Chapter was formed.  He believes that the chiefs, along with APOA, have a strong voice to influence legislation for the betterment of all involved. 

 

Chief See serves as the President of the local APOA Chapter, has been an intoximeter Instructor Supervisor, was on the advisory board for domestic violence advocacy for several years, is involved in the schools on strategic planning, teaches health classes on drugs/alcohol and other subjects, and is on the PACE (cyber school) board of directors.  He is involved with grade school intramural basketball and coaches Little League.  He serves as a voting member of the Prince of Wales Health Advisory Council.

 

Chief See raised three children, two girls and a boy, and now has four grandchildren with a fifth due in July.
