
Chief Charles T.C. Kamai became interested in law enforcement at a very young age. While still a teenager he became a member of Law Enforcement Explorer Post 2 of the Anchorage Police Department. At the age of twenty-one Chief Kamai was chosen to be a Reserve Police Officer with the Anchorage Police Department.
In September 1988 he joined the Kodiak Police Department and held assignments in the Patrol Division and Criminal Investigation Unit. In March 1992 Chief Kamai was promoted to the rank of Police Sergeant and assigned to the Patrol Division.
In October 1994 he was reassigned to the Criminal Investigation Unit. Chief Kamai remained in that assignment until January 2000 when he was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant. A few months later he was appointed to the rank of Chief of Police.
Chief Kamai is the youngest person every appointed to the rank of Chief of Police with the Kodiak Police Department.
Chief Kamai is a graduate of Anchorage Police Department Reserve Officer Academy 88-01, the 30th Session of the Municipal Police Academy at the Department of Public Safety Training Academy in Sitka, Alaska and the 99th Session Administrative Officers Course, Southern Police Institute - University of Louisville.
Chief Kamai is a recipient of several commendations and awards from the National Police Hall of Fame and was recognized in 1991 and 1998 by Kodiak Crime Stoppers, Inc. as the Kodiak Law Enforcement Officer of the Year.
Chief Kamai is a certified Police Instructor and holds professional memberships with the Alaska Police Officers Association, the Alaska Association of Chiefs of Police, the International Association of Chiefs of Police and the National Tactical Officers Association.
Chief Kamai is a member of Fight Crime: Invest In Kids and also serves on the Kodiak Salvation Army Advisory Board and the Kodiak Youth Football League Board of Directors.
Chief Kamai is married and has two sons. He is active as a coach with Kodiak Little League and the Kodiak Football League.
