Tragedy in Hoonah

A Message from AACOP President, Chief Thomas Clemons

It is my pleasure, as President of the Alaska Association of Chiefs of Police, to welcome you to our web site.

AACOP was established as a voice representing all law enforcement executives.  It is our mission to enhance the quality and effectiveness of Alaska's criminal justice system.  We hope to accomplish this by providing our members access to a professional network of law enforcement executives; by providing training, mentoring, and professional assistance; and by providing some useful tools to assist Alaska's law enforcement administrators become better leaders and managers. In addition, our association endeavors to monitor the State of Alaska legislative process and to speak on behalf of our membership on relevant issues.

Our members are police chiefs and executives from all areas of law enforcement in the State of Alaska.  Alaska is an enormous state where most of our communities are not connected by a road system.  With severely limited resources, we have nicknamed our effort “Long Distant Law Enforcement”. We recognize the fact that all of us must work together and share our resources to accomplish our goals.  It is our belief that by working together as we do, we can accomplish a multitude of tasks and problem solving much more effectively.

Once a year, in conjunction with the National Academy Associates and the Alaska Police Standards Council, we provide an opportunity to all our membership to participate in our Executive Development Seminar. This seminar brings outstanding instructors to Alaska from all over the United States and provides our members with quality education, as well as exposure to new issues in regard to the administration of our duties.

I hope you find our web site valuable and useful for your needs. Please feel free to contact me by calling the Seward Police Department (907) 224-3338, or by emailing me at spdchief@cityofseward.net.
